Is It Time For You To Do Something New

On a recent trip to Sacramento, California, after conducting a seminar, I visited Old Sacramento. Just west of the downtown area, this is a wonderful rendition of what an Old West town must have looked like a long time ago.

There is a statue in Old Sacramento that depicts the beginning point of the Pony Express – a cowboy on a horse with pouches of mail.

It was at 2:45 in the morning on April 4, 1860, when a rider named Sam Hamilton took off to the east in a blinding rainstorm for the 1,966 mile trek to St. Joseph, Missouri.

Now I don’t know about you, but I thought that the Pony Express was around for a long time. But it only existed for 19 months, until October of 1861. And, during that time, they carried 35,000 pieces of mail as it connected the western part of the U.S. with the eastern part.

In that short period of time the Pony Express literally created a western legend.

So, I’m here to talk about the Pony Express because of the following fact: It was a great idea at the time. But, 19 months later, the telegraph and the railroads all took the place of the Pony Express.

Sometimes in life we get too caught up in ideas that are old, that worked during that time, but aren’t necessarily the ideas that are going to carry us to the next level in life.

So, there comes a time when we need to change and look at new ideas and decide, “OK. Whatever I’ve been doing is no longer working. I need to create some new ideas.”

That’s the problem. Here’s the solution:

You write an affirmation that states: I am very creative. I am creating lucrative new ideas.

When you say that affirmation the first thing each morning and the last thing every night, doing so for at least 30 days, I believe you will find after a couple of weeks that your mind will open up. “Well, maybe I can.”

And, within 30 days, I believe you will believe every word of it. Before you know it, you’ll open your eyes, you’ll see new things, and you’ll create new avenues that take your life to the next level.

That’s all it takes – re-programming the most powerful computer in the world – your brain.

So, I want you to be able to get on your horse and ride in a great new direction. That’s what this message is all about.

You are special. You are unique. You are destined for greatness. And I believe that you are trailblazing a whole new lucrative direction in your life. Have a powerful day!

Here is what one 7-year-old told me the other day about his experiences with the new “30 Day Can Do Program for Kids” CD: “It makes me feel good every morning.”

This upbeat, positive program, with 2-minute messages for every day of the year, is recommended for children 4 to 12. As a bonus to the CD, you will get the “Can Do Workbook”, a great e-book supplementary teaching tool to the audio messages.

The “Can Do Program for Kids” CD is available, with the e-book bonus, for just $29, at the Boaz Power Store on my web site: Boazpower.com.

Taking The Trash Out Of Your Mind

July 19, 2010 by Boaz 1 Comment »

After a recent seminar in Calabasas, California, I stopped at a beautiful park right off Highway 101.

Calabasas is about 15 miles west of the San Fernando Valley and northwest of Los Angeles.

There was a road next to the park which led up a hill. Over that hill was the Calabasas Landfill. In the greater Los Angeles area there are about a dozen landfills where some 16,000 tons of non-hazardous waste is disposed of every day of the year.

My message here is the correlation between the landfill over that hill in Calabasas and the negative thoughts that we allow to come into our minds in the form of mental garbage.

It’s simply amazing. I read a statistic that kids, by the time they’re four or five, have heard the word “No” thousands of times. And that has been imbedded in their subconscious minds.

So, if things don’t work well for us, we imbed that thought in our subconscious mind. When we think negative thoughts, we’re imbedding those thoughts in the form of garbage into our subconscious mind.

I’m thinking maybe it’s time to clear out the garbage from our brains. Because, the more trash and the more garbage and the more negative thoughts we have in our brains, the less we’re going to accomplish what we want to accomplish.

That is the problem. Now let me give you the solution.

In order to get rid of some of the garbage in the brain, it’s like a computer. What you put in is what you get out. Maybe you’ve heard the term: GIGO – garbage in, garbage out.

So, if you’ve got a bunch of garbage in the form of negative thoughts in your brain, then here’s what we need to do. We need to write down some positive affirmations that can override, just like a computer program, some of that negative garbage that you’ve got in your brain.

So, here are some positive affirmations: If you don’t have much confidence, then write down the following affirmation: I am a confident person.

Whether you believe it or not is immaterial. Just put it on the bed stand and read it out loud the first thing every morning and the last thing every night.

If you don’t believe that you’re a good manager with money, if you’ve gotten into debt over your head, then write an affirmation that says: I am a great money manager.

Read that the first thing every morning and the last thing every night, for at least 90 days, and you will be amazed how that will help to clear out some of the negative garbage that’s in your mind.

Isn’t it time that we took some of that mental garbage out and got rid of it and perhaps buried it for a long time to come.

I am replacing negative thoughts with powerful, positive affirmations that are improving my life.

Is It Water Under The Bridge For You

If you’ve been around for a while, you’ve probably heard of the Geneva Convention.

Well, I recently experienced my own version when I conducted a seminar for a nice group of people in Geneva, Illinois. I guess that was my version of the “Geneva Convention”.

Geneva, Illinois, is a lovely community about 40 miles west of Chicago. I was speaking at the beautiful Herrington Inn and Spa, right next to the Fox River.

As I stood on the balcony of my lovely room at the Herrington, I felt very peaceful watching the meandering Fox River going downstream right outside my room.

That beautiful sight was a great example of peace, something that too many people lack in their busy lives.

If you don’t have peace in your life, my aim is to help you get some.

So, the most important thing about having inner peace is to define, on paper, what is it that concerns you. Think about it, what are you worried about most of the time? What frustrates you?

Is it your health? Is it your finances? Is it a career? Is it a relationship?

The first, and most important point, is to define it on paper. “What am I concerned about the most? What upsets me the most?”

And then focus on one area that you can improve.

If it is your health, and you need to eat healthier, then start today. Start by taking a walk. If you lived in a beautiful community like Geneva, Illinois, maybe you’d take a walk along the river.

Maybe you need to just pay attention to what you’re eating and eat a little more carefully.

If it’s a relationship you need to improve or change, then do something about it.

If it is finances that’s causing you inner turmoil and not allowing you to have inner peace, then start paying in cash, pay off some debts, save some money, live a little below your means.

The important point is to do something about at least one area that’s frustrating you and to take small steps. Before you know it, those small steps add to bigger steps.

And there’s something else about the Fox River in Geneva that I want to talk to you about as a lesson. The Fox River continuously goes to move downstream. The bridge over the Fox River, which I saw from my hotel balcony, was a symbol in life because the water underneath it continues to go under the bridge.

So, if there are some things that you are resenting from your past, realize that those are water under the bridge. It is already gone. As I saw in the Fox River, there was no way to make it go backwards. It continued to move downstream. It’s water under the bridge.

So, whatever has not gone well in the past, just decide to let it go down the river and decide that in the future you will do things differently.

I am taking positive steps to improve whatever is frustrating me in my life.

What If a Hurricane Came Through Your Life

On a recent speaking trip to Galveston, Texas, I learned about the extent of damage that Hurricane Ike caused when it smashed into that community at 2:10 in the morning on September 13, 2008.

However, in the time since that tragedy, I saw on my visit the amazing progress that the residents of Galveston have made.

The people of southeastern Texas are resilient. They get things done. They stand up and take action. As I drove around town, I was truly amazed with the progress they had made since Hurricane Ike.

I found the town alive and breathing and a wonderful place to come and visit for a vacation.

So, the message here is about getting things done.

We all, at one time or another, have a hurricane either literally or figuratively come through our lives and then we just don’t know what to do.

Well, the champions just start with step one.

So, if a house like one of the many new ones I saw being built in Galveston was demolished in a hurricane, the first step to recovery would be to pick up a piece of wood and put it in the trash. The idea is to pick up the mess and clean up.

That’s the first step.

Some things in life are tension-relieving while others are goal-achieving. So, I found when I was in a difficult situation, that if I focused on those goals that were goal-achieving, I went much further and I was able to make great progress.

Great power is generated when we take action quickly on something that has to be done, something that is goal-achieving.

I believe you do exactly that when you’re faced with a storm.

I always do the most valuable thing first and quickly

How You Can Create a Brand New Idea

I was in Irvine, California a few weeks ago to conduct a seminar for a great group of CEO’s.

It was at that meeting that I met Ken LaCroix. His company is called Moveri. It is a fairly new company and therein is the message for this newsletter.

A couple of years ago Ken was the Chief Financial Officer for a company in the Irvine area. He then had the bright idea of creating his own company where he would offer his services as a CFO for hire, on a temporary basis.

As I have often discussed in this column, all of us have the ability to literally re-invent ourselves. We can find new directions for our careers; we can create new jobs; we can create new companies.

Ken, thinking outside the box, decided to use his extensive experience to help many different companies by coming in and working as a temporary CFO. He basically had the guts to listen to his inner voice and he changed his life for the better.

Ken, backed by his 20 years of experience working as a CFO for different companies, quit his job and started the Moveri Company.

He started calling on local companies in the Irvine area and proposed that he would work for them as a CFO not just for an entire month, but for one or two days at a time.

As Ken relates, “That resonated with those CEO’s who had the need for a Chief Financial Officer but couldn’t afford a full-time one. As I talked to more and more CEO’s, I found that there was a true need for this type of service.”

Ken is a great example of looking around, finding a need, and filling it. We all have the ability to be very creative. Some people open up their minds and they come up with great new ideas.

As Ken exemplifies, it’s not what the economy is doing; it’s not what the government is doing; it’s not what the weather is doing that’s important. What’s important is what’s going on in our minds.

When it comes to the current economic challenges, Ken further related, “I’m convinced that I couldn’t do what I’m doing today if it was two or three years ago.

People then would have said that everything is fine, sounds like a great concept, but I don’t need it. Now, everyone I meet relates that they know they need to get better at their business and they need what I have.”

There is no big secret as to why Ken’s new company has become successful. He told me that he talked to a lot of people about his concept. He talked to a lot of people. What a simple idea.

You can learn more about Ken and his services by going to his web site: Moverigroup.com.

As I relate to my audiences nationwide, we all have more power in our brains than any computer man could ever create. Isn’t it time that we opened up our minds to great possibilities?

I create great ideas, great new businesses, and a great future

How You Can Get the Taste of Sweet Success

June 21, 2010 by Boaz 1 Comment »

CLICK HERE TO “TAKE ME TO THE NEXT LEVEL”

On a recent trip to do a seminar in Bend, Oregon, I learned why one local company there is continuing to have great success, no matter what the economy is doing.

The company is American Licorice and they seem to know how to get the taste of sweet success.

It was at their corporate headquarters in Bend that I interviewed Sue Jones. She is the company’s Director of Human Relations. Their licorice, in the famous large red jar, is sold nationwide along with many other sweet products.

She related that the company was founded in Chicago in 1914. Corporate headquarters was eventually moved to Bend. The company, with about 400 employees, has manufacturing facilities in Indiana and in California.

The Red Vines Licorice, in that distinctive red jar, is one of the company’s national brands. There’s also their tasty Sour Punch product and there’s a new product called Natural Vines, an all-natural licorice.

I asked Sue why the company has continued to be so successful, despite the current economy. Her answer was simple: “We’re really focusing on our consumer. We’re in the business of providing happy consumer experiences.”

She further related that the company had spent the past few years developing their business strategy, focusing on building up their consumer strategy, learning who their consumers are, and what they’re looking for from the company’s products.

This concept, of putting themselves in the customer’s shoes, has helped American Licorice to continue to succeed. That’s exactly what Dale Carnegie, in the book “How to Win Friends and Influence People”, suggested. He said, “Put yourself in the other persons shoes and look at things from their perspective.”

“We have a very passionate and loyal following,” related Sue, “and we’re actually in the process of doing a national drawing contest by our consumers. They really love our product.” Numerous drawings from that contest were up in the hallways of the company’s headquarters.

So, there you have it. It’s not a big secret as to why some businesses struggle while others prosper.

At American Licorice they’re constantly getting involved with the ultimate customer, wanting to make sure that they have a happy consumer experience.

What can you and I do today to put ourselves in other people’s shoes and look at things from their perspective.

Perhaps we, too, could get more of the taste of sweet success.

How to See Your Goals Clearly and Solve Problems

June 7, 2010 by Boaz 2 Comments »

CLICK HERE TO “TAKE ME TO THE NEXT LEVEL”

Sometimes, when we are surrounded by challenges, it seems very difficult to see a way out. It’s as if we’re surrounded by heavy fog and we don’t know which way to go.

This concept was brought home in a wonderful story that Peter, a subscriber to this program, shared with me in a recent e-mail. I’ll let him tell you what happened…
“Thanks for your excellent piece on changing your perspective. It reminds me that I learned the same lesson as a youngster…

Many years ago I took a long sailing trip with some of my sailing buddies. It was a hardy sort of trip starting in Labrador, sailing around icebergs and finishing up the St. Lawrence Valley north west of Quebec City.

We had a lot of adventure in this trip and those stories could fill a few more emails, but it is the last day of the trip that fits with the theme of perspectives.

On the last morning of the trip, my best friend and I were alone on the boat as the others had disembarked at a port more convenient for land connections than the port where we were to leave the boat.

That morning we were in a thick fog in a part of the St. Lawrence that is full of small islands and shoals and is also in the shipping channel.

GPS hadn’t been invented and we didn’t have any electronic navigation equipment on the boat except for a depth sounder. We were doing our navigation the old way. Well, we got disoriented in the fog and we started to panic. We could hear fog horns and sea gulls. Both warnings of approaching hazards.

Fog horns meant a big cargo ship or a land obstruction and sea gulls meant the shore or beach. The depth sounder was all over the map because of the difficult water we were in.

We had changed direction so many times in panic that we had no idea where we were on the charts. We were at a loss until my friend realized that if he climbed the mast, he might get above the fog and have a clear view of our location.

Well, that was the solution. From high up on the mast my friend could see exactly where to go next and we both learned an important lesson on perspective.”

Isn’t life sometimes exactly like Peter’s dilemma in that boat? Sometimes we just need to get a different view of our circumstances.

Sometimes we just need to focus on doing one productive thing without trying to solve a number of problems all at one time.

One question that has helped me greatly in the past, when I wasn’t sure what to do about a problem, is as follows:

“What is the most productive thing I should be doing right now?”

Then, go do that one thing. When done, ask yourself the same question again and do something else that is productive.

Before you know it, you may find yourself at the top of the mast and things might look a whole lot clearer.

I do the most productive thing at any given moment.

How to Bring Peace to Our Finances

May 31, 2010 by Boaz 1 Comment »

CLICK HERE TO “TAKE ME TO THE NEXT LEVEL”

I recently traveled to San Diego to conduct a seminar. On my way south, since I had a little extra time, I stopped by the Self-Realization Fellowship center in Encinitas, California.

There, right on the Coast Highway, you will find some of the most peaceful and beautiful meditation gardens in the country. Situated on a bluff, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, this is an amazing place to come, to meditate, to find peace.

However, if there is great turmoil in our lives, a visit to such an incredible place can only be a momentary respite from the stress that one would feel when getting back to reality.

One area of life that seems to be causing a lot of stress for many people is money. Used properly, it can be a very productive tool to give us peace, security, and a special lifestyle.

However, when mismanaged, the lack of money can cause stress, anxiety, fear and great heartaches.

I’ve made my share of mistakes with money in the past and, in order to find peace in this aspect of my life, I had to make some changes. Here are some of the changes I made in my own life concerning money…

I started living below my means. Where did we get misdirected when many of us thought that we had to live in fancy houses, drive fancy cars, and live a fancy life? Many were going broke trying to live beyond their means.

Thus, I lowered my expenses and that helped me to be able to sleep better at night.

I also stopped charging. I stopped using my credit card as if it was an open checkbook. It’s so easy to use credit cards. However, when the bills come in, it can be so hard to pay back those debts.

If I couldn’t afford something, I simply decided to save until I could pay in cash. Buying in cash is very empowering. Doing so meant that I was being much more responsible with my money.

My next step was to start paying off my debts. There is great power in being debt free. I started by paying off the smallest debt first. That gave me confidence and it felt good. Then I attacked the next largest debt and so on.

Being debt free is like “supercharging” a motor and it suddenly takes a vehicle in a great new direction with a lot of power.

I then started saving money. This is another way to gain great power. When you have a sizeable amount of cash in the bank, no one can threaten your security. You have created your own security.

People worry about their credit scores. I decided that I’d rather be a lender than a borrower. I also decided that cash is king and that it allows me to basically set my own credit score. Making purchases with cash now gives me great leverage when it comes to negotiating better prices.

So, those were the steps that I took to bring peace to the financial side of my life.

What about you? If you need to make some changes in your finances, why not follow the steps I’ve listed? Let’s take the feeling from the Meditation Gardens in Encinitas and spread it throughout each day of your life.

I am taking control of my finances by living below my means, paying in cash, becoming debt free, and saving money.

How to Reduce Stress and Live Longer

May 24, 2010 by Boaz 7 Comments »

I have been in New Orleans, for speaking engagements, a number of times in recent years. I was there in 2006, a year after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, and saw some of the incredible damage when large portions of the city were flooded.

I was back in the city again recently and saw how much progress had been made by the incredible citizens of that city. Yes, much work still has to be done.

However, by exerting individual initiative rather than depending on government help, I saw what many people had done to rebuild their homes and their businesses.

The spirit of New Orleans is alive and kicking. It is truly an amazing city.

I looked around the area where the 17th Street Canal had broken through and flooded a large area. This was close to Lake Pontchartrain.

New Orleans is basically between the Gulf of Mexico on the south and Lake Pontchartrain on the north. There is a waterway between the Gulf and the lake. During Katrina, water poured into the lake and then flowed south into the city though its canals.

The pumping stations, which were meant to pump the water back into the lake, failed and the city, below sea level began to flood as water undermined the walls of the 17th Street and other canals. The water pressure eventually toppled some of those walls and the rest is history.

As I stood there the other day, in the area where much construction is taking place, I thought about the correlation between the water pressure in the canals in New Orleans during the hurricane and our own health.
In our bodies, when we experience too much stress, I believe that that puts undue pressure on our blood vessels and on our arteries. High blood pressure and other problems can occur.

The problem is that these can be hidden killers because these conditions may not be obvious.
I’m not a doctor. However, I believe that stress is the number one killer in this country. I believe that stress causes undue hardships on our bodies and our bodies react with defense mechanisms that aren’t necessarily good.

If you find that you have financial challenges that are stressful, lower your expenses, pay in cash, pay off your debts and save some money.

If you find yourself stressed out at work, may I suggest that you go into your office, put your head on your desk, and say quietly and slowly: “I am a calm and peaceful person.” Say that line, over and over and over, each time a little slower, and you will lower your pulse rate.

If you need to calm a situation down, go take a walk rather than get into an argument. Also, do some exercises on a regular basis.

You could call a friend and tell them how important they are to you.

These ideas can help you reduce stress so that you don’t collapse under pressure.

Turning Your Driving Ambition Into Solid Goals

May 17, 2010 by Boaz 3 Comments »

CLICK HERE TO “TAKE ME TO THE NEXT LEVEL”

I recently conducted two seminars in the Dallas area and had a free afternoon between events.
Since both of my children were adopted from the Edna Gladney Home in Ft. Worth, I took a drive to go by there. After that, I drove to the northern side of Ft. Worth to visit the old stockyards.

They do something at the Ft. Worth Stockyards that isn’t done anywhere else in the world. Twice a day, at 11:30 a.m. and then again at 4:00 p.m., they have a “cattle drive”.

That’s right. A “cattle drive”. A bunch of cowboys lead 16 longhorn steers down Exchange Avenue for everyone to see what it was like in the Old West.

As I was watching that cattle drive that day, I thought about the correlation between a cattle drive and our goals in life. Most people have no written goals and they eventually wonder “what happened?”

What if, in the Old West, cowboys conducted cattle drives with no specific goal. They would probably just let the cattle wonder off in any direction. They had to have specific goals and specific plans on how to accomplish their mission. Otherwise, failure was assured.

Thus, if you have not written down specific goals for the next five years of your life, shouldn’t this be your “driving ambition” right now? I think so!

Write down specific goals of how you want your life to be five years from now. Where will you live? What type of house or condo? What will you be driving? What do you want your state of health to be? How do you want your most important relationships to be?

Then divide those goals by 5 and define what portions of those goals you want to accomplish in the next 12 months. A further step would be to divide your 12 month goals into portions you want to accomplish in the next 30 days.

Then, like the cattle moving down Exchange Avenue one step at a time, get started on your short-term goals (for the next 30 days) and take one step at a time.

It’s important to actually “see and believe” your short-term, 30 days goals. If you don’t see and believe them, lower the expectations until you get to a point where you say “anybody could do that”. That’s when you’ll believe and achieve those short-term goals.

In time, many short-term goals, accomplished one after another, lead to the achievement of really big goals.

Be sure to identify some sensible rewards along the way as you achieve each goal. That way your mind will get the idea that good things happen when you make a concerted effort to achieve important goals.

Like the cattle drive I saw that day at the old Ft. Worth Stockyards, let’s drive your future in the right direction, with written goals and small initial steps.

Isn’t it time that we “steer” things toward a great future?
