Taking Control Of Your Power

Recently, when conducting a series of seminars in the Washington, D.C., area, I stopped by to see The White House.

It was in 1790 that President George Washington decided that the federal government would reside in the District of Columbia. He worked with the French architect Pierre L’Enfante to design the city and specifically to choose the site at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue for The White House, the President’s house.

The cornerstone was laid in 1792 and the first President to move into The White House was John Adams with his wife Abigail in the year 1800.

The White House symbolizes POWER all over the world. It symbolizes real POWER.

Too many people in this day and age, with financial challenges, health challenges, and so forth, feel like they have lost their power.

It is my feeling that power does not reside outside of us. It doesn’t matter what the government is doing, what the weather is doing, what the economy is doing, the real power resides in our mind – the 6 inches between our ears.

Do you realize that is the only thing we have total control over? Our thoughts. So, it’s not what happens. It’s how we react. That’s what my mother always told me: “It’s not what happens. It’s how we react. The choice is the reaction.”

May I suggest that you turn those thoughts inwardly and declare positive affirmations of the way you want to see the world. Chances are that you will declare and receive more of the good things that could be coming towards you.

I believe that declaring the following affirmation, the first thing every morning and the last thing each night, for at least 30 days, will begin to help most anyone to re-take their power.

You are special. You are unique. You are destined for greatness. I see it in you – You are a Champion! Have a powerful day!

Is It Water Under The Bridge For You

If you’ve been around for a while, you’ve probably heard of the Geneva Convention.

Well, I recently experienced my own version when I conducted a seminar for a nice group of people in Geneva, Illinois. I guess that was my version of the “Geneva Convention”.

Geneva, Illinois, is a lovely community about 40 miles west of Chicago. I was speaking at the beautiful Herrington Inn and Spa, right next to the Fox River.

As I stood on the balcony of my lovely room at the Herrington, I felt very peaceful watching the meandering Fox River going downstream right outside my room.

That beautiful sight was a great example of peace, something that too many people lack in their busy lives.

If you don’t have peace in your life, my aim is to help you get some.

So, the most important thing about having inner peace is to define, on paper, what is it that concerns you. Think about it, what are you worried about most of the time? What frustrates you?

Is it your health? Is it your finances? Is it a career? Is it a relationship?

The first, and most important point, is to define it on paper. “What am I concerned about the most? What upsets me the most?”

And then focus on one area that you can improve.

If it is your health, and you need to eat healthier, then start today. Start by taking a walk. If you lived in a beautiful community like Geneva, Illinois, maybe you’d take a walk along the river.

Maybe you need to just pay attention to what you’re eating and eat a little more carefully.

If it’s a relationship you need to improve or change, then do something about it.

If it is finances that’s causing you inner turmoil and not allowing you to have inner peace, then start paying in cash, pay off some debts, save some money, live a little below your means.

The important point is to do something about at least one area that’s frustrating you and to take small steps. Before you know it, those small steps add to bigger steps.

And there’s something else about the Fox River in Geneva that I want to talk to you about as a lesson. The Fox River continuously goes to move downstream. The bridge over the Fox River, which I saw from my hotel balcony, was a symbol in life because the water underneath it continues to go under the bridge.

So, if there are some things that you are resenting from your past, realize that those are water under the bridge. It is already gone. As I saw in the Fox River, there was no way to make it go backwards. It continued to move downstream. It’s water under the bridge.

So, whatever has not gone well in the past, just decide to let it go down the river and decide that in the future you will do things differently.
