On a recent business trip to San Francisco, I stopped by the Golden Gate Bridge. Not far from the overlook where I stood, in the middle of the harbor, was the famed prison, Alcatraz.

There is something in life that is a lesson from these two iconic symbols that are world-renowned: The Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz.

Do you realize that the only thing we have total control over is our brain? We cannot control the government. We cannot control the weather. As much as we’d like to, we cannot control the economy.

But the only thing we have total control over is our brain.

So, let’s pretend that there is a golden gate to our brain. And, if we don’t watch out for what comes into our brains, then all of us, sooner or later, can literally become mental prisoners in our own minds.

This is due to negative thinking; due to watching the news too much; due to reading the newspaper; buying into all kinds of things that people are saying about the direction of our economy.

So, may I suggest that you post yourself as a mental guard at the golden gate of your brain. And make sure you do not allow mental negative thoughts; that you don’t allow the news media to guide you. That you don’t become a prisoner of your own thoughts.

Because, that in itself can sometimes be worse than serving time in a real prison. At least, then, some people eventually get out.

May I suggest a positive affirmation: I guard the golden gate of my mind.

You are special. You are unique. You are destined for greatness. I see it in you – you are a Champion! Have a powerful day.
