Taking Control Of Your Power

Recently, when conducting a series of seminars in the Washington, D.C., area, I stopped by to see The White House.

It was in 1790 that President George Washington decided that the federal government would reside in the District of Columbia. He worked with the French architect Pierre L’Enfante to design the city and specifically to choose the site at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue for The White House, the President’s house.

The cornerstone was laid in 1792 and the first President to move into The White House was John Adams with his wife Abigail in the year 1800.

The White House symbolizes POWER all over the world. It symbolizes real POWER.

Too many people in this day and age, with financial challenges, health challenges, and so forth, feel like they have lost their power.

It is my feeling that power does not reside outside of us. It doesn’t matter what the government is doing, what the weather is doing, what the economy is doing, the real power resides in our mind – the 6 inches between our ears.

Do you realize that is the only thing we have total control over? Our thoughts. So, it’s not what happens. It’s how we react. That’s what my mother always told me: “It’s not what happens. It’s how we react. The choice is the reaction.”

May I suggest that you turn those thoughts inwardly and declare positive affirmations of the way you want to see the world. Chances are that you will declare and receive more of the good things that could be coming towards you.

I believe that declaring the following affirmation, the first thing every morning and the last thing each night, for at least 30 days, will begin to help most anyone to re-take their power.

You are special. You are unique. You are destined for greatness. I see it in you – You are a Champion! Have a powerful day!

What If a Hurricane Came Through Your Life

On a recent speaking trip to Galveston, Texas, I learned about the extent of damage that Hurricane Ike caused when it smashed into that community at 2:10 in the morning on September 13, 2008.

However, in the time since that tragedy, I saw on my visit the amazing progress that the residents of Galveston have made.

The people of southeastern Texas are resilient. They get things done. They stand up and take action. As I drove around town, I was truly amazed with the progress they had made since Hurricane Ike.

I found the town alive and breathing and a wonderful place to come and visit for a vacation.

So, the message here is about getting things done.

We all, at one time or another, have a hurricane either literally or figuratively come through our lives and then we just don’t know what to do.

Well, the champions just start with step one.

So, if a house like one of the many new ones I saw being built in Galveston was demolished in a hurricane, the first step to recovery would be to pick up a piece of wood and put it in the trash. The idea is to pick up the mess and clean up.

That’s the first step.

Some things in life are tension-relieving while others are goal-achieving. So, I found when I was in a difficult situation, that if I focused on those goals that were goal-achieving, I went much further and I was able to make great progress.

Great power is generated when we take action quickly on something that has to be done, something that is goal-achieving.

I believe you do exactly that when you’re faced with a storm.

How to Become a Social Media Expert

On a recent speaking trip to Dallas, I had the opportunity to spend some time with a good friend who is also a social media expert.

Dave Nelsen, who lives in Pittsburgh, is a business executive, entrepreneur, and he seems to understand how to harness the power of social media.

Dave was born in the Silicone Valley area of California and is a Stanford graduate who moved to Pittsburgh in 1995 to work with a start-up company. He has two sons, 19 and 16, who are his friends on Facebook and help him connect to social media.

Most of what he learned about social media was through is role as the CEO of TalkShoe, a company that let people produce their own podcasts. He used social media tools to build that company.

Dave now does seminars worldwide, teaching business people how to use social media to build their businesses.

I asked Dave why it is important for people to learn about social media to promote their businesses or their companies.

He related that social media allow us to actually connect with clients and customers on a one-to-one basis and that accelerates learning on both sides.

“When we’re actually in such a conversation,” said Dave, “we learn. We build a relationship. We build trust. And that trust is part of how we sell. That’s what I love about social media.”

Just so you’ll know, Dave has been my mentor in social media for a number of months. He helped me see the great value of creating and placing videos on YouTube and has encouraged me to become active on Twitter. Before I started working with Dave, I knew nothing about social media.

Dave said that the whole concept of social media, with all its intricacies, can become confusing to the average person. Thus, he recommends focusing on one aspect at a time and getting to know that process. He said, “Pick one and just do it! Focus on it, master it, and then move on.”

That’s why, with his guidance, I simply focused on YouTube at first. Now I have my own YouTube channel (YouTube.com/user/BoazPowerTV) and have over 60 videos already posted on that channel.

Dave related that these social media services are free and all we have to do is figure out how to use them. Part of the power, Dave told me, comes from people looking for something that people post on social media and then they can be found.

“The key,” Dave said, “is to create value for viewers in a target audience. You want to create value for them in order to build a relationship that will ultimately return to you. It’s the same concept as in the movie Pay It Forward.”

If you wish to contact Dave about his work in social media, he can be reached at Dave@WeSocialize.biz.

He has helped me to begin to understand the power of social media and has a wonderful way of explaining something complex in a way that I can understand.
