After doing a recent seminar in Oakland, California, I had the opportunity to interview the CEO of another company that is succeeding in the current economy.

I spoke with Eric Flowers, the president and CEO of Ramsell Holding Corporation (ramsellcorp.com). Ramsell manages and develops tools and systems for public health programs. The company was originally formed in 1964 by Eric’s father and, one way or another, Eric has been involved with the company for much of his life – actively, full-time, the past 16 years.

I asked Eric what his company had experienced with the economy during the past few years. He related: “By and large, our business has focused on government so far. And, the budget deficits that the government has had in this tight economy have been a challenge. We’ve had to focus on ways to highlight the value and really focus on the value that we bring.”

When I asked him what they did specifically to get through this time, and to thrive, Eric said, “We’re really working to find efficiencies and never losing sight of not just bringing value to the customer, the public health entity that’s paying us, but also trying to improve the outcomes of the patients who receive the services from these programs.”

When I asked Eric what he would say is the key to his success, he told me that they like to keep it simple and really focus on bringing value. His key point is: How can we bring value? He feels that that’s what will ultimately make his company successful.

It seems like a simple enough prescription for success that Eric presents – focus on great value for the customer.
