MARKETING IDEAS THAT LEAD TO MORE SALES AND BIGGER PROFITS!

Marketing Ideas Lead to More Sales and Bigger Profits!

Marketing ideas lead to more sales and bigger profits are valuable in any industry. The following 10 are highly productive and have proven to be very effective and profitable for people in my audiences around the world. Some have led to profits in the millions of dollars! The best part is that none of them cost much money.

1. MARKETING IDEAS LEAD TO MORE SALES AND BIGGER PROFITS BEGIN WITH CALLING THE MEDIA

10 marketing ideas.Call the local television stations, radio stations, newspapers, and business journal in your area. Tell them that you’re sick and tired of hearing negative business news. Tell them that your company is doing great and that you think they should come out and interview you. What if someone says “yes”? You might even contact national TV networks such as CNN and see what happens. You’ll be helping the reporters do their jobs, which is to get new stories.

2. THE FEDEX IDEA THAT LEADS TO NEW CLIENTS

Discover 10 Marketing ideas.Identify 10 companies that you would like to have as clients. Identify the CEO of each of those companies. Send a one-page hand-written letter, with your business card, to each of those CEO’s stating: “With our experience in X, Y, and Z (your 3 best services), I think we could be of service to your company. I’d like to set up a meeting for coffee.” Send these letters once a week, every week, on the same day, by Fedex, until they call. You could send these on a Wednesday for third-day delivery. They won’t know it’s not overnight and you’ll save some money.

The fourth week, for those who haven’t responded, start adding some yellow Post-It Notes, handwritten. One should say, “I’m sure glad you finally opened this.” Another could say, “Aren’t you impressed with how I got your attention?”

In the seventh week, for those who haven’t responded, send a new baseball in a little box with the following Post-It Note: “I’m the one sending the Monday morning Fedexes. Sooner or later we will play ball. So give me a call.” You may choose to send a basketball by Fedex. Use a magic marker to write on it “Give us a shot.”

In the tenth week, call their secretary and find out their shoe size. Send one brand new shoe in a box with the following note: “I’m the one sending the Monday morning Fedexes. Now that I’ve got one foot in the door, call me.” The eleventh week, sent the matching shoe with the note: “I’m the one sending the Monday morning Fedexes. I know what you were waiting for to call me. You were waiting for the other shoe to drop. It just did.”

Marketing ideas that lead to more sales and bigger profits don’t have to be complicated or expensive. The key to this idea is to focus on 10 companies for the full 11 weeks. I’ve seen this one get great results!

3. CHANGE YOUR VOICE MAIL AND TURN IT INTO A COMMERCIAL

10 marketing ideas.Marketing ideas lead to more sales and bigger profits when we personalize our phone messages. Let’s make your voice message, and that of everyone in your company, work for you by promoting what you do. To make you different, leave a message such as the following: “This is John. I’m busy helping a client (make more money, get more sales, etc.). Leave a message and I’ll call you back so we can do the same thing for you.” Show everyone that you are different, busy, successful, and ready to help them. Be sure to show enthusiasm when you leave these messages!

4. THE CLIENT BRAINSTORM

10 marketing ideas.Call together the CEO’s of your top 10 clients to a meeting at your office. Tell them how important they are to your company and how much you appreciate their business. Then tell them that, because they are important to you, you want to share some powerful marketing ideas with them that you believe could help them get more business. You begin by sharing these 10 marketing ideas. Hold another meeting three months later to see how people used the ideas.

Marketing ideas that lead to more sales and bigger profits can be as simple as making our most important clients feel important. People are as interested in us as we are in them. When they get a good idea from you, that makes them money, they will naturally want to help you get more business.

5. THE EMPLOYEE BRAINSTORM

10 marketing ideas.Call together all of your employees for a Monday morning 29-minute update. Tell them how important they are to your company and tell them that you need their help. Ask the following: “If you were the CEO of this company, how would you lower expenses, improve productivity, and get more clients.” Make a big deal about any ideas that turn into productive action steps. As a point of respect, start referring to your employees as “Ladies and Gentleman”. Introduce new team members with a welcome poster on their first day and throw an ice cream social in their honor at lunch time. It will make them feel important.

6. CREATE A Z CARD

10 marketing ideas.Marketing ideas lead to more sales and bigger profits when we hand out a very unique business card. Why not create a business card/brochure combination that can tell your company’s story in a very powerful way. Most business cards either end up in a pile or get tossed away.

The ZCard is a handy, compact, powerful marketing tool that is very effective in getting your message into the hands of potential customers. It can tell your story in a much better way and people tend to keep these because they are so unique. May I suggest that you never give out a regular business card again. These have been produced for Toyota, American Airlines, and Disneyland. You can get more information by going to ZCardna.com.

7. SEND HAND-WRITTEN NOTE CARDS

10 marketing ideas.Do not use note cards with your company logo. Get blank note cards with blank envelopes at a local drug store. They just might think that you picked up the card personally. Do not write a return address. I want to force people to open up your card. Use commemorative stamps to get more attention and hand-address the card. Write short note cards to your employees and to your clients. Tell them how important they are to you and how much you appreciate them. Send one note card a day, for 30 days, and see what happens. Adopt this motto: Never forget a customer; never let a customer forget you.

Marketing ideas that lead to more sales and bigger profits can be as simple as writing handwritten note cards to previous clients and see if you could bring them back. Tell them that you’ve been thinking about them and would like to get together for coffee or lunch.

8. LAUNCH YOUR OWN TV NETWORK

10 Marketing ideas.Marketing ideas lead to more sales and bigger profits when we launch our own television network on the Internet. Create short, 2-3 minute videos that make you look like an educator in your field. Google your industry and find some interesting historical facts about your industry that will make people say, “Wow! That’s interesting.” That will get you a killer core story. Get a free YouTube Channel and post these videos there first and then on your website. Get a microphone and a cube, called a “microphone flag”, with your logo on it so you look like a network correspondent for your company’s own television network. You can get these at a local commercial audio store. Call your Internet television network your company name with the word “Nation” after it. Send e-mails to your entire database after posting each video and let them know about your latest “television report”.

9. CREATE A UNIQUE SELLING PROPOSITION (USP)

10 Marketing Ideas.Marketing ideas lead to more sales and bigger profits when we have a strong USP. Create a unique selling proposition that stops people in their tracks when they ask you what you do. The aim is to get people to pay total attention for a few seconds so that they might tell others about your company. A good USP should be short, not logical, start with the word “We”, and include the word “You”. The line you’re filling in is: “We do ____________ for you.” Conduct a contest among your employees and put up some nice prizes. That will make them feel important.

Google your potential USP’s and see if anyone is using them. Even if they are, as long as it’s in another industry, and there would be no confusion, you can get it trademarked for yours. Do so with a good trademark attorney. Your USP should then be on everything – website, business cards, all advertising and it should be used when your receptionist answers your phone.

10. PERSONALIZE ALL TEXTS AND E-MAILS

10 marketing ideas.Marketing ideas lead to more sales and bigger profits when we personalize our texts and e-mails. Other than family members, always use the other person’s first name and yours in all texts. Dale Carnegie, in the book “How to Win Friends and Influence People”, said that, to each of us, the most important thing in life is our name. When it comes to e-mail, always address people by name and change the subject line each time if it’s a series of e-mails in one day. Have a complete signature in all e-mails, including a street address and a phone number where they can reach you directly. If it doesn’t come as an attachment, add your picture to your signature. On the web, Exclaimer.com is a service that can make all of your company’s e-mail signatures the same.

MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN RESULTS!

All 10 of the above marketing ideas have been used by people in my audiences. Some have resulted in millions of dollars in profits. These truly are marketing ideas that lead to more sales and bigger profits!

FOCUS ON ONE GOAL AND TAKE ACTION!

Focus on one goal and take action.

Focus on one goal and take action if you really want to achieve great things in life. Thus, we need to set goals from a higher point! It’s a matter of perspective.

THE COMPTON HILL WATER TOWER

When I was in St. Louis for speaking events, I noticed a unique structure in the Compton Hill area just west of downtown. The picture above is of the historic Compton Hill Water Tower, adjacent to the Compton water reservoir. The Tower is on the National Register of Historic Places and is significant for both its architecture and engineering.

Built in 1899 at a higher elevation point in St. Louis, the tower is 179 feet high. It is a standpipe design that is encased in an architectural tower and a critical part of the city’s nearby water system. Today the tower is open for tours. Visitors climb 198 steps to get a great view of the city.

FOCUS ON ONE GOAL AND TAKE ACTION TO THE TOP!

We can all achieve our most important goals if we focus on one important goal and place it at the top of the list.

Like the Compton Water Reservoir in St. Louis, we all have a reservoir of energy. Thus, we need to focus that energy! Focus on one goal and take action!

Identify, on paper, your one most important goal for the next 12 months. Break that goal down to what simple steps you could take in the next 30 days and then in the next 7 days. Then take one important step today and another tomorrow. You might see things differently!

A FOCUS DAILY AFFIRMATION

“I’ve identified my one most important goal and I’m taking daily steps to achieve that goal!”

GOALS DON’T NEED TO BE UPHILL!

Goals don't need to be uphill.

Goals are important. However, too often, we either don’t identify them clearly or we set them so high it seems as if we’re going uphill.

When I spoke before a great group in Canada, I was at the Calgary Golf and Country Club in Calgary. Since I was there, I took the picture above from the back patio of the club. I learned the following on the club’s web site: “Established in 1897, the Club bought land on an isolated bend of the Elbow River in 1909 and began play in 1911.

The foundation of today’s course was laid out by the Scottish designer Willie Park, Jr. in 1922 and restored to his classic standard in a 2005-2007 major renovation.

PEOPLE HITTING GOLF BALLS UPHILL?

I’ll admit to you that I do not play golf and do not know much about the game or the rules. However, the reason I took the picture above was that it shows a beautiful flat putting green and then it shows people hitting golf balls uphill.

I realize there are hills on golf courses. This one just seemed steeper to me and it’s as if players were being challenged to hit certain marks up the hill. Those marks being the white circles in the picture, up the hill.

ARE YOUR GOALS ACHIEVABLE?

I got to thinking about the correlation of that golf course to us setting goals in life. As a result, too many times we set goals that are so far ahead that we don’t believe them. Thus, we don’t take action.

That might be the golf shot all the way up the hill in Calgary.

What if we broke our goals down to believable portions? Perhaps trying to hit the closest uphill mark in the picture above? Then, when we hit that, it might give us the confidence to hit the next mark up the hill.

Thus, if you have an important goal for this year, and you haven’t taken action, why not break it down into achievable and believable portions? As a result, you will take action on the first step and see what happens.

This could give your goals a lift!

POSITIVE MOMENTS CAN BE BENEFICIAL!

Positive Moments Can Be Beneficial!

Positive moments can be beneficial when we focus on them instead of what’s not currently working. What we focus on expands! Thus, we have to be careful what we think about. It’s easy to focus on the negatives and most people do. Champion focus on positive moments!

MY NORTHWESTERN EXPERIENCE

When I spoke in Chicago, I went by Northwestern University in Evanston. That visit was a case of nostalgia. I spent my 1965 summer, between my junior and senior years in high school, at the National High School Speech Institute at the university. The picture above of Northwestern is from questbridge.org.

That was an amazing summer as I worked in the radio and television studios of the university and got to know high school students from all over the country who were part of the program. Keeping in mind that positive moments can be beneficial, those were positive moments.

THE BASEBALL T-SHIRT IN ISRAEL

Something else that I remember with great fondness is what my uncle in New York sent my brother and me in 1956 when we lived in Israel. That was just before my family immigrated to the United States and my uncle sent us a couple of yellow T-shirts.

That’s me in the picture, after we arrived in America, when I was 9, along with my mother, in February of 1957.

I was wearing the T-shirt, which was from the old New York Giants baseball team. You’ll notice the old-fashioned phone, when it was wired into the wall.

POSITIVE MOMENTS CAN BE BENEFICIAL IN OUR MEMORY!

We all get depressed from time to time and I certainly do. Perhaps, at those moments, we should think back to simpler times that meant a lot to us, were positive experiences, and made us feel good.

That summer at Northwestern was very special. The feeling of wearing the T-shirt from America to school was very special. Those were positive times that I need to treasure in my memory bank and bring to mind when I feel down.

MAKING A LIST OF 10 MOMENTS

What if we made a list of 10 moments from our past that made us feel special and that we cherish? And, when we feel depressed, what if we took out that list and brought those moments from the past to the forefront?

Positive moments can be beneficial. Thinking about them could change our momentum and, for a moment, put the past ahead of us.

A NOSTALGIA DAILY AFFIRMATION

“I’m making a list of positive moments from my past and think about those to help me move ahead.”

PEACEFULNESS IS IMPORTANT!

Peacefulness should be sought out.

Peacefulness is important to all of us. When I was a newscaster on a radio station in Tulsa, Oklahoma, while in high school in 1965, there was a peaceful song on the radio. “The Sound of Silence” by Simon & Garfunkel, had just been released. It was a beautiful and soothing melody.

PEACEFULNESS AT SOOKE HARBOUR HOUSE!

I was reminded of that song when I arrived to speak for a group at the Sooke Harbour House, about an hour’s drive from the airport on Victoria Island in British Columbia.

Hence, if you look closely at the picture I took above, you can see a totem pole standing guard to make sure no one disturbs the peacefulness of this place. As a result, I was struck by the beauty and the majestic silence that I found there. Other than the harbor water gently lapping onto the rocks, it was total silence. This was simply amazing!

AND THE VISION THAT WAS PLANTED IN MY BRAIN…

As the line from the Simon & Garfunkel song says, “And the vision that was planted in my brain, still remains, within the sound of silence.”

Did you ever notice that there’s so much noise in our everyday lives: TV sets are on, people talking on the phone, traffic, music blaring into headphones.

Thus, it was almost a shock to the system to stand there at the Sooke Harbour House, overlooking the bay, and hearing the sound of silence. Maybe we should make a conscious effort to find such a place sometimes and touch the sound of silence.

A SILENCE DAILY AFFIRMATION

“I’m finding places where I can experience the sound of silence.”

FOCUS IS A SHORTCUT TO GREATER SUCCESS!

Focus success and that will be a shortcut to greater success.

When we focus success, that can help us reach our most important goals and lead us to even greater success! That concept was brought to mind when I spoke for a group at the magnificent Brasada Ranch, about 30 minutes east of Bend, Oregon.

HORSES HAVE BLINDERS!

Brasada is much more than a ranch. There is a spa, a golf course, bicycle riding paths and, yes, there are horses for trail rides.

While watching some of the horses at Brasada, I got to wondering why some horses have blinders on? Like the picture above from huffingtonpost.co.uk.

IT’S A MATTER OF FOCUS!

Horses have their eyes on the side of their heads. So, they have peripheral vision. As a result, they can end up running off course unless they are made to remain focused. Blinders are often used when horses pull wagons or carriages.

I wonder if that same concept might help us humans when it comes to accomplishing important goals? Too many times, and I’m as guilty as anyone, we multi-task and don’t apply our full energy to any one thing. When we focus on success, more success comes to us.

THE DISTRACTIONS ARE EVERYWHERE!

These days, we can be distracted by our cell phones, texting, and social media.

If that is a problem for you, as it can be for me, may I suggest that you declare the following daily affirmation: I always do the most valuable thing first and quickly.

Declare that the first thing each morning and the last thing each night, for at least 90 days, and watch what happens. Just for clarity, I don’t want to “bridle” your enthusiasm. I just want to focus it!

FOCUS SUCCESS WITH A DAILY AFFIRMATION

“I focus success by always doing the most valuable thing first and quickly.”

ATTITUDE SPEAKER TALKS ABOUT GOALS!

Attitude Speaker and Goals as Relating to Roulette.

Attitude speaker and goals are two important things to me. I also realize that our attitude toward our goals is very important. Thus, we cannot gamble with that. It’s important to identify our goals, in writing, break them down, and take action.

I noticed an attitude lesson when I spoke in Las Vegas and walked through the casino at the Mirage Hotel. I saw the roulette game and took the above picture of it.

BECOME A BIG WHEEL INSTEAD OF A LITTLE WHEEL!

Wikipedia explains that “Roulette is a casino game named after the French word meaning little wheel. Players may choose to place bets on either a single number or a range of numbers.

The colors are red or black, whether the number is odd or even, or if the numbers are high (19-36) or low (1-18).

No matter which way you look at it, playing roulette is a gamble. We’re hoping the ball lands on the right number so we can win.

LET’S NOT GAMBLE WITH OUR GOALS!

When we don’t write down our important goals, we’re gambling that things will work out the way we want.

As an attitude speaker, I learned that we’ve got to change our attitude about our goals and realize that “for things to change, we’ve got to change.” It’s not the economy. It’s not the weather and it’s not good breaks. It’s US and our attitude.

If you haven’t already done so, I encourage you to write down your 5 most important goals for the next 5 years. Then write down the steps you will take in the next 12 months and the next 30 days to help accomplish those goals.

Let’s make sure that the figurative roulette wheel in your life has the ball landing on the right number! That’s a productive way to take control of your power!

A GOAL-SETTING DAILY AFFIRMATION

“I write down my goals, break them down, and take action!”

ATTITUDE CAN BE ADJUSTED!

Attitude means everything. It can be adjusted.

Attitude means everything and it needs to be adjusted on a regular basis. I learned an important lesson about adjusting our attitude when I recently spoke in St. Louis and stopped by the famous Gateway Arch.

THE WORLD’S TALLEST ARCH

According to Wikipedia, “The Gateway Arch is a 630-foot monument in St. Louis. Clad in stainless steel and built in the form of an inverted, weighted catenary arch, it is the world’s tallest arch. It’s also the tallest man-made monument in the Western Hemisphere, and Missouri’s tallest building.

Built as a monument to the westward expansion of the United States, and officially dedicated to ‘the American people,’ it is the centerpiece of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial and has become an internationally recognized symbol of St. Louis, as well as a popular tourist attraction.”

The Gateway Arch took two and a half years to construct and was opened to the public in 1967. It is located at the site of where St. Louis was founded, on the bank of the Mississippi River.

I’ve had the amazing experience of riding the unique elevator system in the arch that takes visitors to the observation deck at the top. Most noteworthy is the bird’s eye view of the city of St. Louis that one gets at the top. Especially relevant is the fact that the building of The Arch was an engineering marvel! I would guess that, with the builders of this incredible monument, they would have agreed that attitude means everything!

IT’S NOT WHAT HAPPENS, ITS HOW WE REACT!

Most people take a four-minute tram in either one of the legs to get to the top of The Arch. Each tram is a chain of eight cylindrical, five-seat compartments, that swing like Ferris-wheel cars as they go up and down.

Thus, in order to keep the passengers level, these compartments make a series of adjustments as they move up and down The Arch. In reality, those adjustments are similar to the changes that happen in each of our lives.

Unexpected things happen to all of us, good or bad, and we have to react. Therefore, if we react with a bad mood, that could affect the outcome negatively. Thus, it’s not what happens, it’s how we react and attitude is everything. Hence, Champions have bad moments. However, they just react more quickly and look for any positive step they could take to make things better.

Just like the tram compartments at the St. Louis Arch, life is a series of adjustments. Hence, if these adjustments are difficult for you, the following affirmation may help.

ATTITUDE MEANS EVERYTHING DAILY AFFIRMATION

“I look for the good in any difficult situation and look for a productive step I can can take immediately!”

CREATIVITY IS SOMETHING WE ALL HAVE!

Creativity can be improved!

Creativity can be improved and is within each of us, if we decide! Many of my speaking engagements each year are for Vistage groups of CEOs, key executives, and owners of small businesses. Vistage is the world’s largest organization of CEOs. Each group has a chairman. I was very impressed with the creativity of one of these chairmen when I spoke for a Vistage group in San Luis Obispo, California.

YOU OUGHT TO KNOW UTA!

Her name is Uta Birkmayer and, as I was speaking, she was creating an amazing visualization of my presentation. The picture above is of her 4 ft. x 8 ft. creation.

It took me a little while to realize what Uta was doing. She was actually taking every major concept that I teach and visualizing it with words and illustrations on a giant poster.

Uta later told me that the process is called visual recording. She had taken a course that is offered both in San Francisco and in Germany by Grove Consultants International.

According to their web site, people learn from them to facilitate groups and support their work by using large-scale graphic displays to help them clarify and achieve their meeting outcomes. In other words, people get a visual picture of the main points they’re discussing.

CAN WE DRAW SOME CONCLUSIONS HERE?

I was very impressed with Uta’s creativity. I think this shows us that creativity can be improved, that we are all very creative in some way, if we give ourselves a chance. Thus, if you want to improve your creativity, the affirmation below may help.

The second thing I thought about, when I saw Uta creating the large visualization, was that it’s helpful to see things on paper. If you have a problem that seems difficult to solve, why not write down and draw out the main elements of the problem and some possible solutions.

When things go around in circles in our minds, not much happens. However, when we get ideas out of our minds, and onto paper, somehow clarity comes about. Then we can draw some better conclusions and come up with some answers.

CREATIVITY CAN BE IMPROVED AFFIRMATION

“I’m a very creative person. I come up with novel ideas regularly.”

POSITIVE THINKING BEGINS IN THE MIND!

Positive thinking really works. It begins with guarding our minds.

Positive thinking really works. It is important in determining the success of our future. That future begins every morning when we wake up. At that moment, we subconsciously make a decision as to whether we’ll have a positive or a negative attitude that day.

WE HAVE TO BE ON GUARD!

It’s harder to have a positive attitude. Because, in order to get that, we have to consciously guard what enters our minds. However, positive thinking really works and can improve our lives dramatically.

As I recently flew into Boston, for a speaking engagement, I noticed a fort in the harbor. As I later found out, this is Fort Independence. The fort’s picture above, from the web site theworldgeography.com, is of the oldest continuously fortified site of English origin in the United States. According to Wikipedia, “The first primitive fortification, called “The Castle”, was placed on the site in 1634.”

NEGATIVE THOUGHTS CAN BE DESTRUCTIVE!

Just as Fort Independence provided harbor defenses for Boston, we each need to defend our minds against negative thoughts. Negative thoughts can be destructive! Hence, it takes a real effort to focus on positive thoughts. That process begins by being careful with what we think and with whom we spend time.

Thus, the people around us are part of either The Building Crew or The Wrecking Crew. Spending more time with the first group and, as much as possible, staying away from the second, is really important.

In addition, it is said that we are the total sum of the five people we spend the most amount of time with on a regular basis. Thus, if those people are not at the level of success you desire, or on their way, then think twice about their impact on your life.

When it comes to positive thinking, the affirmation below may help to defend your mind against negative thoughts.

POSITIVE THINKING REALLY WORKS DAILY AFFIRMATION

“I guard my mind against negative thoughts, focus on the positives, and make good things happen.”
