HOW TO GET FINANCIAL FREEDOM

How to get financial freedom

How to get financial freedom is something most everyone wants to accomplish. However, most people never get there because there are no classes in ordinary schooling that teach this important subject. In fact, this is a very important subject. In the majority of divorces, money and the handling of it is usually found to be the root cause of the breakup. Not only are there no classes on how to handle money, but there are many examples of people creating mental roadblocks that will guarantee they never become financially free. The following are some things to do, and some things not to do, on the road to financial freedom.

HOW TO GET FINANCIAL FREEDOM BEGINS WITH CHANGING OUR BELIEFS

How to get financial freedomThe main reason why more people don’t become financially free is their belief system. Perhaps it comes from childhood or from relatives. Many people grow up with a “poor” attitude, thinking they don’t deserve to be rich. Perhaps they grew up in a family situation where money was tight and caused problems between parents. Thus, people can get the idea that money is bad. It causes problems. Therefore, why would someone want to have a lot of it? This often results in negative self-talk which is a form of hypnotism. If we tell ourselves something long enough, we can become entranced with that concept and that guides our actions.

This feeling of not deserving money, success, and happiness, can lead to bad decisions when more money is earned. People get into debt, they make bad investments, spend it foolishly, or they lend it or lose it.

If negative self-talk can exist, so can positive self-talk. The subconscious mind does not analyze the information we allow into our brains. It takes everything as being real. Therefore, if we desire financial freedom, and have a negative view of money, then we need to change the self-talk into what we really want. The following affirmation, stated the first thing each morning and the last thing each night, without analysis, will help when it’s declared for several months:

Everything I touch prospers and succeeds. I deserve to be successful! Money comes to me easily from all directions. I have a prosperity attitude!

IF IT’S NOT WHAT YOU WANT, DON’T SAY IT

How to get financial freedomHow to get financial freedom is based on our relationship with money. What if money was a person? What if that entity heard us saying bad things about money? “I never have enough. I can’t make ends meet. Things cost too much.” It wouldn’t want to be around us. Since our words become our reality, I suggest we never use negative words when it comes to money. Let’s treat money as if it’s a friend. Let’s develop a good relationship with money.

Money comes to people who attract it. Let’s make sure you don’t repel it with the words you use. Instead of saying, “I can’t afford that,” say “How can I afford that?” Instead of saying, “I can’t make ends meet,” say “I’m an expert at managing my money.” When you combine this change of words with the affirmation above, you’re making sure that your thoughts and your words work in unison to help you become financially free. Handling money is a habit, either good or bad. My aim is to make this habit a very good one for you. In addition, carry a $100 bill in your purse or wallet. That will make you feel prosperous every time you see it!

STAYING OUT OF DEBT IS CRUCIAL

How to get financial freedomHow to get financial freedom greatly depends on staying out of debt. Society makes it so easy these days for people to get into debt. Everywhere we look there are offers for credit cards that make it seem simple to get what we want right now. Just hand over the credit card and the item you want is yours. However, that momentary thrill quickly fades away when it takes months, or sometimes years, to pay off the debt. Often we find ourselves making minimum payments and, when combining that with the high interest rates, a simple purchase can become very expensive over a period of time.

A very productive new habit, when it comes to money, is to pay in cash. If we can’t afford to get something right now, what’s wrong with saving for it? There is a much greater joy, in my opinion, to pay in cash and have no payments to drag us down for a long time. There is great power, and great confidence, in being debt-free and having money in the bank. That give us choices in life and allows us to live life the way we desire.

If you are in debt right now, I suggest you tighten your belt, hold down your expenses, and pay off those debts. Focus on the smallest one first and get it paid off. Make minimum payments on all the rest. Then, focus on the next one in line. Paying off the small debts first will give you momentum and give you the feeling that you’re actually making progress. Add the payments you made on one and two to focus on paying off number three and so on.

OPERATE ON A WRITTEN MONTHLY BUDGET

How to get financial freedomHow to get financial freedom is helped greatly with a written budget. In my work as a professional speaker, I often poll audiences to see how many people actually operate on a written monthly budget with their money. The results are always pretty much the same. Usually, no more than 25% of the people do that. Thus, the rest of the people have no order with their money and thus there’s often not enough to get through the month. They end up using credit cards or tapping savings accounts in order to get the extra money they need. This is a pattern to nowhere.

I’ve been there. I remember, years ago, when I didn’t operate on a monthly budget. My credit cards were all charged to the max and that also reflected my stress level. When we’re under stress with money, that affects everything else we do. We don’t operate at peak performance and we could miss opportunities. Now that I don’t have credit card debt anymore, the sense of freedom is amazing! I have a credit card in my wallet, which is there only for emergencies. I operate on a debit card. That way, when the money is at zero, I have to stop spending.

Put together a monthly, written budget where every dollar is allocated to something specific. Look for any areas where money doesn’t absolutely have to be spent and pare that down. Make every effort to stick to the written budget for a few months and watch how that improves your chances of becoming financially free.

A PART OF ALL I EARN IS MINE TO KEEP

How to get financial freedomHow to get financial freedom can be learned from the Og Mandino book, “The Greatest Salesman in the World”. In that book, he talks about the wealthy Persian merchants in Babylon, 6,000 years ago. They treated money with respect and thus it accumulated and took care of them. They believed that “a part of all I earn is mine to keep”. I believe that it’s not how much money we make that’s important. It’s how much of it we keep. Otherwise, how would explain the little old librarian in Vermont who retires with a half a million dollars in her savings? She never made much money each year. However, she simply kept a part of all she earned each year and put it into her savings. After many years, she had a great nest egg.

Thus, I suggest that the first item on your written budget should be to your savings. It doesn’t matter if it’s initially $25 a month. It’s not the amount. It’s the habit of paying yourself first. Because, if you don’t, you and I know what will happen. Savings becomes the last item to think about and there’s usually not any left at the end of the month. If you don’t consider yourself, and your financial future important, no one else will. Your financial future must come first on the list! Then, as you continue to be more productive with money, you can increase that monthly contribution toward your financial freedom.

Thus, to establish the foundation toward financial freedom, change your mindset about money, don’t say words about money that you don’t want, stay out of debt, operate on a written monthly budget, and pay yourself first.

BE AMBITIOUS AND PROSPER

Be ambitious and prosper

Be ambitious and prosper is a concept that can transform our lives. Sometimes we look at people who are ambitious as being greedy. However, I believe that most people who are ambitious actually have their goals clearly defined and they’re going after them with resolve and determination. There’s nothing greedy about that. That just makes sense. Thus, if we don’t clearly define where we want to go, and develop a plan to get there, then the universe will dictate our destination. Ambition is simply self-determination and it makes all the difference in the world as to why some people live extraordinary lives while others just get by. If you seek to rev up your ambition, and live a better life, then here are some ideas that may help.

1. BE AMBITIOUS AND PROSPER WITH A BLUEPRINT

Be ambitious and prosperBe ambitious and prosper by creating a blueprint for the type of life you desire. In one of my careers, I was a carpenter and a builder. If I wanted to build a new house, I wouldn’t just order a bunch of wood, have it dropped off on an empty lot, and hope that a house would magically appear. I would have to start with a blueprint that shows all the details that would be necessary to build the house. The same thing goes for our lives and our goals. Thus, without a detailed plan, there’s no way to structure a special future.

Ask yourself, “If nothing changes in my life, would I be pleased with where I am five years from now?” If the answer is no, then you need to crank up your ambition. Write down specific goals that would define exactly where you want to be in your life five years from now. Define where you want to your health, your relationships, your career, your finances, and your home to be at that time. Break down those five year goals into the portions you need to accomplish in the next 12 months. Then, narrow that focus to the next 30 days. Make sure the 30 days goals are believable. If not, lower them until you do believe. What you see is what you’ll get. Get pictures of the five year goals and post them where you can see them every day.

2. TURN FEAR INTO POSITIVE ACTIONS

Be ambitious and prosperBe ambitious and prosper by overcoming fear. Ambitious people have fears. However, they simply realize that they have to fight that urge or it will paralyze them and keep them from accomplishing their goals. What do most people fear? When it comes to success, I believe that most people fear failure. “What if I try something and it doesn’t work out and what will other people think?” Winston Churchill said that “Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.”

Thus, I think that ambitious people turn their fears into positive actions by simply taking more chances. They come to bat more often and don’t fear striking out. They know that the odds are in their favor to prosper, sooner or later, when they take massive action. Babe Ruth was famous for hitting more home runs in his era than any other baseball player. It is also a fact that Babe Ruth had more strike outs than most players of his time. He went from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm until he reached his next success. The following affirmation, stated the first thing each morning and the last thing each night, might help if fear is keeping you from being ambitious:

I always do the most valuable thing first and quickly. I am ambitious and I’m creating a great future.

3. THINK LIKE AN ENTREPRENEUR

Be ambitious and prosperBe ambitious and prosper is the theme of people who are known as entrepreneurs. An entrepreneur is someone who creates ideas for businesses or companies and then takes action to bring those ideas to life. Thus, it is this pattern of thinking that goes hand-in-hand with being ambitious. If you wish to become more ambitious, you need to think differently. Don’t be average. The average person is bored and broke. Ambitious people realize that they’re 6” away from success. The distance between their ears.

Thus, to think like an entrepreneur, we need to put different thoughts in our minds. The average person will have many more negative thoughts swirling in the mind that positive thoughts. The excess negative thoughts will kill ambition. Reading, the right books, will put the right thoughts in our minds and we’ll find ourselves thinking more like an entrepreneur. The best book I’ve ever read on entrepreneurship is “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. It tells the stories of many entrepreneurs and explains how they became successful. However, don’t just read that book once. Read it at least 3 times in the next year and that will embed some of the valuable ideas in your mind.

4. START TODAY AND WATCH WHAT HAPPENS TOMORROW

Be motivated and prosperBe ambitious and prosper by taking some kind of positive action TODAY. Benjamin Franklin said that there is no day of the week called “Someday.” Thus, ambitious people don’t take a lot of time to analyze opportunities. They don’t wait until they know everything they need to know to take action. Ambitious people don’t wait for the approval of others to get started. They take action NOW. They realize that there is great power in immediate action. In other words, motivated people perform and they do it NOW!

When it comes to success, ambitious people know that a series of small steps can lead to big successes. They don’t spend a lot of time analyzing opportunities. They take action. My family immigrated to America when I was 9. My mother came to the U.S. with no money and no English. Within a few years she had both. She was ambitious and that was reflected in the small, positive actions that she took every day. She would sneak a few minutes of progress, on important goals, every day. In time, her small daily steps added up to big accomplishments.

5. FOCUS ON SOMETHING UNTIL YOU MASTER IT

Be ambitious and prosperBe ambitious and prosper by becoming a master at something. Becoming really good at something can help you become more ambitious and can lead to great success. Before I became a paid professional speaker, I gave many free speeches in a short period of time. It was the summer of 2000 when I decided to change my career and become a professional speaker. Thus, I booked myself to give free speeches at Rotary Clubs and Kiwanis Clubs all over San Diego, where I lived at that time.

I gave several each week, perfecting my message by getting audience feedback from each group. As I recall, I gave over 50 free speeches in a matter of 3 or 4 months before someone offered me money to speak. Ever since that time, I have now give over 2,000 paid speeches throughout North America, in the Caribbean, and in England. Thus, the more I focus on making my messages more meaningful, the better I get, and the more ambitious I become. I am constantly working at mastering what I do at a higher level.

6. SPEND TIME WITH OTHER AMBITIOUS PEOPLE

Be ambitious and prosperBe ambitious and prosper by being careful who you spend time with and from whom you get advice. Our life is the total sum of the five people we spend the most time with and follow. Thus, take a look around and analyze whether the people around you are ambitious and successful. If they are not, and you wish to live a more prosperous life, find new people to spend time with and follow. Identify those people and ask them for advice about your future. Ambitious people are usually honored to give advice to others.

Much of my speaking career has been for the world’s largest organization of CEO’s. It’s called Vistage. CEO’s meet in groups of about a dozen, one day a month, and help each other with ideas on how to have their companies become more successful. Thus, spending time with all of these ambitious CEO’s has had a tremendous influence on the way I think and in my level of ambition. I’ve learned that these people have challenges. However, they consider those as opportunities, take action, and move ahead. I know how valuable it is to spend time with ambitious people.

If you’re not pleased with where you are in life, you’re the only one who can change your future. Follow these simple ideas and see how that improves your ambition and adds prosperity to your future.

BECOME FRIENDLIER AND SUCCEED BIGGER

Become friendlier and succeed bigger is a concept that most people miss completely. And yet it’s a critical factor if we want to succeed at a higher level. Dale Carnegie, in the book “How to Win Friends and Influence People” said that there are all kinds of courses in ordinary schooling. However, he was not aware of any courses on how to get along with people and how to express a friendlier personality. Thus, he created such a course and, to this day, it is taught worldwide with amazing results. I personally took The Dale Carnegie Course years ago and benefited greatly from the simple, but life-changing concepts that I learned there. The Carnegie book describes 9 points that could help any of us become friendlier:

BECOME FRIENDLIER AND SUCCEED BIGGER: DON’T CRITICIZE, CONDEMN, OR COMPLAIN

Become friendlier and succeed biggerOur ability to create great relationships is at the heart of success. Carnegie said that if we want to put the nails in the coffin of any relationship, we should criticize, condemn, or complain. And, he further stated, most fools do just that. He tells about notorious criminals like Al Capone and “Two Gun Crowley” and the fact that they didn’t criticize themselves. In fact, Al Capone, the gangster, felt that he gave people “the lighter side of life.” He believed he was a public benefactor. He didn’t blame himself for anything. Thus, what about the people you and I deal with every day? They usually don’t blame themselves for anything and often defend their actions.

If you feel strongly about criticizing someone, or complaining about something, Carnegie suggested that you do what Abraham Lincoln did when he was upset with a general during the Civil War. Lincoln wanted the general to attack a Confederate force at an opportune moment. The move could have shortened the length of the war. The general did not attack. Lincoln was furious. He wrote a detailed critical letter to the general expressing his dismay. What did the general do when he got it? Nothing. Lincoln never sent it. It was found in his records years later. Thus, if you feel like criticizing, condemning, or complaining, write a detailed letter to the person and put it in a drawer for a few days. Chances are you’ll never send it and you’ll save yourself a setback toward bigger success.

GIVE HONEST AND SINCERE APPRECIATION

Become friendlier and succeed biggerBecome friendlier and succeed bigger means giving honest and sincere appreciation. Carnegie said that people perform at a much higher level when their efforts are being appreciated. Carnegie related that John Dewey, one of America’s most profound philosophers, said that the deepest urge in human nature is the desire to be important. He said that “This desire makes you want to wear the latest styles, drive the latest cars, and talk about  your brilliant children.”

Carnegie further stated, “It is this desire that lures many boys and girls into joining gangs and engaging in criminal activities. The average young criminal, according to E.P. Mulrooney, onetime police commissioner of New York, is filled with ego, and his first request after arrest is for those lurid newspapers that make him out a hero. The disagreeable prospect of serving time seems remote so long as he can gloat over his likeness sharing space with pictures of sports figures, movie and TV stars, and politicians. Thus, when you give honest and sincere appreciation, that makes people feel important and escalates your success.

AROUSE IN THE OTHER PERSON AN EAGER WANT

Become friendlier and succeed biggerBecome friendlier and succeed bigger by being aware that the only way to get people to do what we want is by focusing on what other people want. Carnegie said, “Why talk about want we want? That is childish. Absurd. Of course, you are interested in what you want. You are eternally interested in it. But no one else is. The rest of us are just like you: we are interested in what we want. So, the only way on earth to influence other people is to talk about what they want and show them how to get it.”

Carnegie also said, “Remember that tomorrow when you are trying to get somebody to do something. If, for example, you don’t want your children to smoke, don’t preach at them, and don’t talk about what you want; but show them that cigarettes may keep them from making the basketball team or winning the hundred-yard dash.” Thus, if you want to become friendlier, and gain greater success, look for the reasons of why the other person might want to do that which you desire.

BECOME GENUINELY INTERESTED IN OTHER PEOPLE

Become friendlier and succeed biggerBecome friendlier and succeed bigger by becoming genuinely interested in other people. Carnegie said that the people who cause the most harm are those who aren’t interested in anyone but themselves. A study by the New York Telephone Company showed that the word most frequently used in phone conversations was the word “I”. It was used 3,900 times in 500 telephone conversations. Carnegie stated, “When you see a group photograph that you are in, whose picture do you look for first? If we merely try to impress people and get people interested in us, we will never have many true, sincere friends. Friends, real friends, are not made that way.”

Carnegie declared, “If we want to make friends, let’s greet people with animation and enthusiasm. When somebody calls you on the telephone, use the same psychology. Say “Hello” in tones that bespeak how pleased you are to have the person call. Showing a genuine interest in others not only wins friends for you, but may develop in its customers a loyalty to your company.” My mother was genuinely interested in other people and that was reflected in the success of her business. She said that everybody’s got a story and she felt she could learn something valuable from everyone she met. It’s no wonder people liked her so much!

SMILE! SMILE! SMILE!

Become friendlier and succeed biggerBecome friendlier and succeed bigger by smiling more. It takes fewer muscles to smile than it does to frown. And yet, it appears that many people make the extra effort to frown. It’s no wonder people don’t consider them friendly. Carnegie talks about Charles Schwab, the man that Andrew Carnegie made the president of U.S. Steel many years ago: “Charles Schwab told me his smile had been worth a million dollars. And he was probably understating the truth. For Schwab’s personality, his charm, his ability to make people like him, were almost wholly responsible for his extraordinary success; and one of the most delightful factors in his personality was his captivating smile.”

Dale Carnegie further related, “Actions speak louder than words, and a smile says, ‘I like you. You make me happy. I am glad to see you.’ That is why dogs make such a hit. They are so glad to see us that they almost jump out of their skins. So, naturally, we are glad to see them.” If you’re not used to smiling a lot, just experiment for one week. Make a concerted effort to smile at 5 strangers every day. Watch how much friendlier other people will be to you because you’re going to be friendlier to them.

REMEMBER THAT A PERSON’S NAME IS, TO THAT PERSON, THE SWEETEST AND MOST IMPORTANT SOUND IN ANY LANGUAGE

Become friendlier and succeed biggerBecome friendlier and succeed bigger by remembering people’s names and calling them by name. Carnegie said that the most important thing in life, to all of us, is our name. Otherwise, why would someone give a fortune to have their name put on a building that will last much longer than their life? Carnegie stated, “This policy of remembering and honoring the names of his friends and business associates was one of the secrets of Andrew Carnegie’s leadership. He was proud of the fact that he could call many of his factory workers by their names, and he boasted that while he was personally in charge, no strike ever disturbed his flaming steel mills.”

When texting, other than to a family member or close friend, may I suggest you always use the other person’s first name and sign with your name? The same goes for e-mails. When meeting people, repeat their name several times. The repetition will solidify their name in your mind and it will make them feel important. Mention the other person’s name several times in phone conversations and watch what a better reception you get to whatever ideas you’re sharing.

BE A GOOD LISTENER – ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO TALK ABOUT THEMSELVES

Become friendlier and succeed biggerBecome friendlier and succeed bigger by being a very good listener and encourage others to talk about themselves. God gave us two ears and one mouth. Maybe we should look at these proportions. However, these days, with all of our electronics, who’s paying attention to anyone? Thus, the person who is an active listener, really paying attention, is considered to be friendlier and given more respect. Carnegie stated, “What is the secret, the mystery, of a successful business interview? Well, according to former Harvard president Charles W. Eliot, ‘There is no mystery about successful business intercourse… Exclusive attention to the person who is speaking to you is very important. Nothing else is so flattering as that.”

My mother, who I mentioned became very successful in business, literally had air brakes on her words. She listened very intently. Thus, if she felt the other person wanted to say something, she would stop talking and say, “What were you just thinking?” With her gentle and caring tone of voice, everyone opened up to her. And, if they had a different point of view, she gently said: “Tell me more.” She was interested in other people’s viewpoints and said: “I can learn from everyone I meet.” She also realized that the person controlling a conversation is not the one who’s talking. It’s the one who’s asking the questions.

TALK IN TERMS OF THE OTHERS PERSON’S INTERESTS

Become friendlier and succeed biggerBecome friendlier and succeed bigger by talking in terms of the other person’s interests. Of course, you and I are much more interested in our own interests. So are the other people. Thus, if we want to escalate our success, let’s put ourselves in their shoes and talk about their interests.

Carnegie related, “Everyone who was ever a guest of Theodore Roosevelt was astonished at the range and diversity of his knowledge. Whether his visitor was a cowboy or a Rough Rider, a New York politician or a diplomat, Roosevelt knew what to say. And how was it done? The answer was simple. Whenever Roosevelt expected a visitor, he sat up late the night before, reading up on the subject in which he knew his guest was particularly interested. For Roosevelt knew, as all leaders know, that the royal road to a person’s heart is to talk about the things he or she treasures most.”

As a professional speaker, I’m very aware that my presentations go much better when I get a lot of audience members to talk. I ask a lot of questions and poll my audience regularly. I tell people that I’m not really a speaker. I’m a facilitator. I’ve come to get them to talk. I guide the process with my questions and then I get them to participate. Thus, I find that this process gets me much further than if I had simply come to lecture. I also find that I succeed bigger when I make other people around me shine. By talking in terms of their interests, I come across as being much friendlier.

MAKE THE OTHER PERSON FEEL IMPORTANT AND DO IT SINCERELY

Become friendlier and succeed biggerBecome friendlier and succeed bigger by making other people feel important. Carnegie said that we don’t ‘want’ to feel important. He said that we all ‘need’ to feel important. He also stated that “people will do more for a feeling of importance that they will for money!” I’m thinking that if I throw enough money at a situation, surely it will fix it. Not if I mistreat you. You’ll eventually have had it with me. Carnegie further related, “The unvarnished truth is that almost all the people you meet feel themselves superior to you in some way, and a sure way to their hearts is to let them realize in some subtle way that you recognize their importance, and recognize it sincerely. Remember what Emerson said: “Every man I meet is my superior in some way.”

If you don’t do this regularly, and realize how much of a shortcut this could be to your greater success, may I suggest that you make a sign that sits on our desk where you can see it every day: EVERYONE IS IMPORTANT! Look at it every day and soon you will be making other people feel important. Do it sincerely and watch what others will do to help you achieve great things.

THREE BENEFITS OF USING A COMMUNICATIONS SPEAKER

Three benefits of using a communications speaker

Three benefits of using a communications speaker means gets to the heart of business success – better communications. Whether you run a non-profit organization or a multi-million dollar corporation, having a communications speaker come to your event can make a difference in how you, your employees and even your customers communicate. These speakers can offer you three main benefits; namely, teaching through entertainment, improving your bottom line and inspiring trust within the company. The more that you know about the specific ways these benefits affect your company, the more convinced you will be that you need the right speaker for your event.

1. Teach Through Entertainment

One of the best ways to teach large groups of people is to keep their attention focused on a speaker or other form of entertainment. Professional speakers can hold the attention of large groups while motivating and inspiring them to learn. This can have your audience laughing and learning as well as wanting to come back for the next lesson.

2. Improve Your Bottom Line

It may be difficult to see how a communications speaker can help improve your bottom line, but that is one of the biggest benefits he or she can offer you. For example, the better your employees can communicate with your customers, the more likely they are to make the sale and have satisfied clients. Better communication skills can also mean that teams work effectively together and new products and services are developed easier. It can also mean that your customers and employees are happier with the company overall.

3. Inspire Trust Within the Company

The better you and your employees can communicate, the easier it is to trust each other. This can, in turn, lead to better collaboration and better products and services for your customers. The better your work environment, the more you and your coworkers will want to be there. It will make it easier to get things done instead of just killing time until people go home. The happier your employees are, and the more effectively they communicate, the better they will trust that their needs are being met by the company. This can lead to better retention and productivity.

A communications speaker can teach your group through entertainment, improve your bottom line and inspire trust within your company. All of these can work together as you create a more positive work environment. This will make it easier to innovate products and services and keep employees and customers more engaged in the process. Thus, your customers will be more likely to keep coming back and your employees will be happier on the job.

WHY LEADERSHIP IS SO IMPORTANT

Why leadership is so important

Why leadership is so important is a topic that’s very important when it comes to getting ahead and being successful. Without leadership, we are relegated to following those who are leaders – whether we want to or not. We usually have to follow their path and our goals are put on the back burner. Some think that certain people are naturally-born leaders. That may be true in some cases. However, I think that leadership traits can be learned by anyone who seeks to achieve greatness and take their life to a great new level.

WHY LEADERSHIP IS SO IMPORTANT MEANS WE LEAD OR FOLLOW

Why leadership is so importantThere is no middle ground in life. Even if we think we’re on the right track, if we’re not moving, we’re going to get run over. When it comes to leadership, we’re subconsciously making a choice every day. We either make the extra effort to lead or we automatically get relegated to following someone else. And, if that someone else is not leading us in a good direction, we won’t be happy when we get to the destination.

Since we are the total sum of the five people with whom we spend the most time, it’s important to take mental inventory and ask ourselves if we want to follow them. If where these people are in their lives is not where we want to go, we need to make a change. Decide to become a leader and follow the road that leads to where you want to go. Write down your goals, break them down into believable pieces, and then declare the following affirmation the first thing each morning and the last thing each night:

I am a talented, capable, strong leader. I have defined my goals in writing and am creating my great future.

Don’t analyze these affirmations. Just state them, out loud, the first thing each morning and the last thing each night. Watch what happens in the next few months!

THE IMPORTANT THING IS TO GET STARTED!

Why leadership is so importantWhy leadership is so important takes many steps. Every great achievement begins with a first step. So, whether you think you have some leadership abilities, or none at all, we can start with a small step TODAY! Make a list of 5 things you could do to show leadership in your life. Perhaps you need to start a modest exercise program, improve your diet, pay more attention to your most important relationships, read a personal development book, or whatever.

Choose one of those subjects, or another, and take an initial step today! In most case, the hardest step in any important goal is the first one. After that, inertia often takes over and its easier to keep going. It’s like the old-fashioned trains with the big metal wheels on the engines. It took quite a bit of effort to get them going down the track. However, once they got going, it took quite a bit of effort to stop the train. That’s momentum.

So, if you choose to show leadership by starting a modest exercise program, how about a walk around the block? That’s a start! Keep doing that for a number of days and you may feel like walking around two blocks. Eventually, you may be using a treadmill for a half hour a day that will get you in great shape and help you lose calories.

LEADERSHIP MEANS HAVING A CHAMPIONSHIP ATTITUDE

Why leadership is so importantWhy leadership is so important is often based on a great attitude. Great leaders do not generally wake up with a great attitude every day. They have challenges like everyone else. In fact, because they are leaders, their challenges are often bigger than the challenges of followers. However, leaders do what has to be done, when it has to be done, whether they feel like it or not.

Leaders get upset and depressed like everyone else. However, they realize that they cannot afford to stay in a rut for too long. The price for that is just too expensive. Thus, they have developed techniques to get themselves back up quickly. One way that I find helps me, when I’m down, is to declare the following affirmation on a daily basis:

I always do the most valuable thing first and quickly!

We most always have choices when it comes to getting things done. Do we do item A or B? Let’s say that A is something easier that we want to get off our list today. However, item B is more valuable to our future. Leaders are leaders because they have gotten in the habit of doing the most valuable thing first, even if they don’t want to. When you declare the above affirmation regularly, you’ll get in the habit of doing the most valuable thing first and you’ll be developing leadership.

You might want to make the following sign, in big type on 8 ½ x 11 paper, and produce it on bright yellow paper:

Every Day I Play Like a Champion!

Laminate it and post it where you can see it every day. Then, each day, just touch the sign. The impact on your attitude is instant! Leadership comes from developing an inner feeling that you do indeed play like a champion every day!

START EACH DAY WITH AN ADVANTAGE

Why leadership is so importantWhy leadership is so important is highlighted by how leaders start each day. The first 15 minutes of each day will set our mood for the entire day. Leaders realize that and thus they do something valuable with that time. They actually begin their day the night before by writing down the 5 most important tasks they need to tackle the next day. They do so in the order of their importance. This is like a blueprint for a house. It’s a blueprint for the next day’s productivity. Since the brain does not turn off during the night, it might work on some of these thoughts and give you some good ideas for the next day when you wake up.

Leaders don’t watch television news before they go to sleep. Having been a newscaster in the past, I remember that we were not told to go find positive stories to put on the news. Murder and mayhem was part of every newscast. Thus, if we watch that before we go to sleep, that sets up negative thoughts in our minds as we fall asleep.

Then, when you wake up, may I suggest that you not turn on television news, listen to the radio, or read the paper. Once again, much of that is negative. Instead, why not declare positive affirmations, such as the ones above, the first thing each morning. This step would be good to repeat just before you fall asleep at night.

After the affirmations, may I suggest you listen to a positive audio message. You can find some of these on YouTube. Next, I suggest reading one page in either or both of the following books that I recommend: How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie or Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.

After that, I suggest a little exercise every day, putting a dollar bill in an envelope, and looking at a picture of your next reward. Since credit cards don’t seem real to the mind, it makes an impact when we handle cash and save it. Getting a picture of your next reward will keep you motivated.

FIND A MENTOR AND FOLLOW THEIR GUIDANCE

Why leadership is so importantWhy leadership is so important is evidenced by the fact that most leaders were once followers. In fact, a good leader is at first a good follower. Identify someone who has done what you want to do and ask them for advice. People are usually honored when you ask them for advice. Tell that person that you admire their achievements and would like to emulate their success.

Ask them what steps they would take to get to where they are. Follow their guidance and report back regularly. If something doesn’t work out, ask them what they would have done differently if they were you.

This is a really valuable step. Most great leaders do not waste time trying to reinvent the wheel. They find someone who already has the wheel they want, ask for advice, and follow the steps they took. Write letters to famous people you admire, tell them why you admire them, and ask for advice. What if some of them respond and what if some of them may want to help with your success?

To become a great leader, we can take one step today and another one tomorrow. Follow these ideas and see what happens. I believe that we all, including you, have greatness within us! I think we can all accomplish incredible things! Start showing leadership today and watch what that will do for your future!

HOW TO BECOME MORE CREATIVE

How to become more creative

How to become more creative is a topic that any ambitious person should pay attention to and cultivate. It is creativity that results in new medications, cell phones, the internet, man going to the moon, supersonic speed, and much more. However, it’s unfortunate that the majority of people don’t think they are very creative. Thus, a lot of new ideas, that could have made a positive impact on many people, are often left unearthed in people’s minds. What if we could open up that treasure chest and allow creative ideas to flow out easily and often? Thus, if you’re open to this possibility, I present to you some ideas that could show how creative you could be. I believe there’s a goldmine in your mind. Let’s go mining…

HOW TO BECOME MORE CREATIVE BEGINS IN THE MIND

How to become more creativeHow to become more creative is a question many people ask. They look at those who are creative and envy their ability to come up with new ideas. I believe that we are all very creative. However, some people have just sold themselves on that fact and many people have sold themselves on the opposite. Whichever way we see anything, we’re right. Thus, we have to be careful what we focus on because that expands. We’re all declaring affirmations every day – those thoughts that run through our minds at about 1,500 words a minute. Many of those thoughts are negative because it’s easier for all those ideas to settle in our minds. It takes a concerted effort to think positively.

If you wish to become more creative, and thus take your success to a higher level, we begin by changing the thoughts in your mind that my form roadblocks. I suggest declaring the following affirmation, the first thing each morning and the lasting thing each night, for the foreseeable future.

Everything I touch prospers and succeeds. I’m a very creative person. I come up with great ideas regularly. These ideas are bringing me greater success and amazing financial rewards. I am a Champion!

Don’t analyze these words. Just declare them, out loud, each morning and evening and let the powerful computer in your brain work on those ideas. Watch what’s about to happen. I would guess that you’ll come up with something amazing in the next 90 days!

GET AWAY AND SPEND TIME IN NEW SURROUNDINGS

How to become more creativeHow to become more creative means doing things that you don’t normally do. Get away mentally and physically and watch what that will do for your creativity. This doesn’t have to be an expensive trip. It would be a weekend away to a national park. A short trip to a city you’ve never seen, a hike on a trail you’ve never experienced, or visiting a friend you haven’t seen in a while. What happens, when we do something new, is that it opens up the mind to new things.

What we’re doing is allowing time for the mind to relax and to mentally wander. We have more power in our brains than any computer man has ever created. We just have to change the programming so we can come up with new ideas. Thus, when we’re distracted by new surroundings, or new activities, the mind relaxed and we allow creative juices to flow. Keep a notepad handy. Then, when an idea comes up, just write it down.

The mind can also wonder when we’re working on a hobby, meditating, exercising, or taking a walk in the park. These types of activities un-focus the brain and allow it to do what it does when we’re not focused on something specific. Our brains were designed to do amazing things. Let’s create the atmosphere where that can happen. Expect amazing ideas to come at those moments and they will. We don’t get what we hope or wish for – we get what we expect!

USE YOUR SLEEP TIME TO BE CREATIVE

How to become more creativeHow to become more creative means that we understand what happens at night. Our brains do not have an “OFF” switch when we go to sleep. It continues to operate on the basis of “business as usual”. Did you ever go to sleep thinking about a problem and then wake up in the morning with what seemed like a solution? We all have. That’s because your brain was working on the problem during the night. These can be very productive hours if we program our minds in the right direction. Let’s do that with creativity.

Thus, when you lay down at night, just say to yourself the following: “I am a very creative person. I come up with amazing ideas!” Say those phrases over and over until you fall asleep. Keep a notepad on the bed stand. If you wake up at night with an idea, write it down and go back to sleep. You may be shocked by some of the ideas you write down during the night or those you have when you wake up. You’re harnessing the tremendous power of your brain to allow your amazing creativity to surface.

From now on, the phrase “Just sleep on it!” should have a new and very productive meaning for you. That could be the time that you prove to yourself how very creative you are.

READING CERTAIN BOOKS WILL BOOST YOUR CREATIVITY

How to improve creativityHow to become more creative is a concept that is greatly enhanced by reading certain books. Reading not only builds character, but it expands the mind and takes us to places we’ve never been. The two books that I have studied the most, and that I believe have enhanced my creativity for many years, are: “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie and “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill.

The Carnegie book is full of fascinating stories about human nature, how to get along with other people, rules for winning friends and influencing people, and other ideas about personal magnetism. The Hill book, although it’s made more millionaires than any other book in history, is basically an ATTITUDE book. It contains many stories of people who started with nothing, came up with an idea, and made a success of that idea. There are creative concepts in every chapter of the book.

I read both of these books many times over. At the same time, I also read many biographies and find that doing so helps my creativity greatly. Thus, I get involved in other people’s stories, the challenges they went through, and how they achieved great things by using their creativity. I especially like inventors like Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Alexander Graham Bell, the Wright Brothers, and so forth. As I travel, I make it point, whenever possible, to visit historical sites that deal with some of my reading. I recently visited Dayton, Ohio, where the Wright Brothers lived, had their bicycle shop, and flew some of their early model airplanes at a nearby airfield. Those kinds of experiences, after reading about the subject, have greatly helped my creativity.

SWITCH A HALF HOUR A NIGHT FROM DISTRACTIONS TO CREATIVITY

How to become more creativeHow to become more creative can be enhanced by turning off the TV, the phone, and the computer for just a half hour a night. Get in a comfortable chair, lean back, put on some headphones, and listen to beautiful music. If you look on YouTube for meditation music, you’ll find many selections. Put one on, close your eyes, and allow your mind to relax. It’s hard to think about more than one thing at a time. Think about the music.

Watching television, or surfing the Internet for hours, can numb the mind. It’s like a mind-killer. Many of the images we see on TV are of violence and conflicts. Those close the mind down rather than open it up. And I believe that limits our creativity. On the other hand, making your surroundings quiet, even for just 30 minutes, and listening to beautiful music, will take your mind away from the distractions and allow creative brain cells to operate. At the end of the 30 minutes, if any ideas come to your mind, write them down. If none come, don’t worry about it. Do the same thing the next night. Within 30 days of doing this, I believe that you’ll fund your creativity has been greatly enhanced.

What if you could come up with a million dollar idea or solve a problem that has bothered many people for a long time? What if you could take your life to a whole new level of success? I believe that we all have the ability to be very creative. Use some of these ideas above, for just 90 days, and watch what happens. I think you are special, you are unique, and I believe that you are destined for greatness because you are very creative!
